FAQ
Homeowner & Auto
Does my standard homeowners policy cover wind and hail?
Inland: Generally, yes.
Coastal (Tier 1 Counties): Likely no. If you live in one of the 14 coastal counties (like Galveston or Brazoria), you usually need a separate policy through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA).
How much coverage do I need for my home?
Coverage should typically match the cost to rebuild your home, not the market value.
What is a deductible?
A deductible is the amount of money you agree to pay out-of-pocket before your insurance company starts picking up the tab for a covered loss.
What is the difference between Replacement Cost and Actual Cash Value (ACV)?
Replacement Cost: Pays to replace your roof or property with new materials at today’s prices.
ACV: Pays the depreciated value (age/wear considered). In Texas, an older roof might only be covered for a fraction of the cost to replace it if you have an ACV policy.
What is liability insurance?
Liability insurance pays for the damage you cause to others. It is the only coverage mandated by Texas law. The state minimums are 30/60/25 ($30k per person / $60k per accident / $25k property damage). It covers the other driver’s medical bills and car repairs. It does not cover your own vehicle or injuries.
How do I protect my car?
Comprehensive coverage is for damage beyond your control – such as hail, floods, fire, theft, or hitting a deer.
Collision coverage covers damage to your car if it’s under your control and hits another car or object.
